Hours of Work
Your working hours are set out in your contract of employment. This section covers the key points you need to know about shift lengths, additional hours, and your responsibilities under the Working Time Directive.
Shift Length
The minimum shift length is 6 hours unless your manager confirms otherwise in writing. This ensures continuity of care for clients and adequate working periods for staff.
Additional Hours
Additional hours may be available from time to time but are never guaranteed. Availability of extra shifts depends on client needs and operational requirements.
Working Time Directive
Both the company and the employee share responsibility for compliance with the Working Time Directive. You must not exceed the maximum working hours permitted by law, and you should raise any concerns about your working pattern with your manager.
Key Points
Your Contract
Your contract of employment is the authoritative document regarding your working hours and arrangements. If there is any discrepancy between this handbook and your contract, the contract takes precedence.
