Speaking Up

Whistleblowing & Grievances

If you witness or suspect abuse, neglect, criminal behaviour, or safety failures, you have a duty and a right to report it. First Choice Healthcare will never penalise you for raising a genuine concern. Whistleblowing protects the people we care for and the integrity of our service.

When to Raise a Concern

  • You witness or suspect abuse or neglect of a client
  • You become aware of criminal behaviour in the workplace
  • You identify a health and safety risk or failure
  • You believe someone is covering up wrongdoing
  • You see a breach of legal or regulatory obligations
  • You feel a client's rights or dignity are being compromised

How to Report

1

Contact your manager directly by phone — this must be a verbal conversation, not a text or email

2

Your concern will be treated in strict confidence at all times

3

A senior manager will handle the matter promptly and thoroughly

4

You may be asked to provide a written statement to support the investigation

5

You will be kept informed of the outcome as far as confidentiality allows

Our Promise

You will never be penalised, disciplined, or disadvantaged for raising a genuine concern in good faith. Whistleblowing is not the same as making a complaint about your own employment — it is about protecting others.

External Reporting

  • Care Quality Commission (CQC) — the independent regulator of health and social care in England
  • Health and Safety Executive (HSE) — for workplace safety concerns
  • Protect (independent whistleblowing charity) — Phone: 020 3117 2520, Email: whistle@protect-advice.org.uk

Grievances

A grievance is different from whistleblowing — it relates to your own employment. If you have a grievance, speak to your manager first. If the grievance is about your manager, contact their manager or HR directly. We aim to resolve issues informally wherever possible.
